A few weeks ago my wife and I attended a homecoming celebration for Sgt. Mike Montange, US Army. We did not know Mike prior to his homecoming. Even though we did not know Mike we wanted to attend to thank him personally for all he has done for our country. Mike had served multiple tours before he was badly injured by an IED. I don’t recall how long Mike spent recuperating in Walter Reed. I believe it was around 1 year.
It was an honor meeting Mike and his family. There was a good turnout to meet this American hero, however, at an event like this I would have liked to see the building overflowing with people such that you couldn’t turn around without bumping into someone. After all, Mike, along with all of the other men and women who wear or who have worn the uniform of the United States of America deserve our heartfelt thanks for protecting this great nation of ours.
After his homecoming Mike had to return to Walter Reed for some additional medical care. He has since returned home to Michigan and there will be a dinner in his honor at the American Legion Hall in Dexter, Michigan. This fundraising event is on Saturday August 15 from 7 PM to 11 PM. The address and phone number for the American Legion Hall is 8225 Dexter Chelsea Road in Dexter, MI (734.426.4511). It would be great if you and your neighbors could join us.

I have allowed the use of my name and story to raise money and/or awareness for the plight of vets and their stories. With that said and while I appreciate the thanks of many who wish to convey it that is not why I joined the army nor do I personally wish to somehow benefit from what I chose to do. Beyond what the government promised it would do if I was ever killed hurt or otherwise discharged for any reason. The US so far has done this as far as I know, however finding the benefits that you are entitled to is a challenge in which no ones prepared. To prevent future wounded troops from being pissed on is what the fundraisers are for. But I myself would rather be left alone and live in peace.
